De France La Plan Tour
Flickers (Full Frame) Bob Hoskins ("Mona Lisa," "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," "Enemy At The Gates") stars as Arnie Cole, a lovable Cockney rogue who wants to move up in the fledgling silent-film industry. Prowling for potential investors, Arnie finds haughty, hypercritical Maud (Frances de la Tour, "Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire," "Rising Damp") - and gets far more than he bargained for. While keeping creditors at bay, squabbling actors on task, and an egotistical director under budget, Arnie and Maud try to build a business based on make-believe. In the process, they manage to kindle an unorthodox - but very real - romance. Crackling with droll dialogue and punctuated by moments of true poignancy, Emmy(R)-nominated "Flickers" takes you behind the cameras for a hilarious look at the eccentric entrepreneurs, ambitious actors, and assorted other oddballs who populated the British movie business in the days before talkies. 3-Disc set contains 6 episodes. Episode Description: Disc 1: "Episode One" - Arnie Cole ekes out a living on the ragged edge of the silent-film industry, not to mention the fringes of the law. But he dreams of starting his own production company. Arnie pitches his plan to Maud and Clive, a bourgeois brother and sister who "wash more frequently than the national average." At first, Maud dismisses Arnie's scheme. But circumstances force her to make a counterproposal. "Episode Two" - Desperate for a star to carry his first picture, Arnie teams up with Max Legendre, who manages silent-film comedian Corky Brown. Temperamental Max really wants to direct, and he trades his client's star power for the opportunity offered by Arnie. Along with Corky come the "Singing Brewers," a show-business family better at bickering than at singing. Meanwhile, Maud does a slow burn waiting for Arnie to save her from spinsterhood. Disc 2: "Episode Three" - Burgeoning egos and brushes with the local constabulary threaten the company's first picture.
